Hello everyone, and welcome to On Your Mark’s English! 👋
Today, we’re learning about the four present tenses in English and how each one changes the meaning of a simple sentence.
Let’s use this example:
⚽ I play football.
Now, let’s see how this sentence changes in each present tense!
💬 1. Present Simple
✅ I play football every weekend.
We use the Present Simple for routines, habits, and facts.
Think of it as your “everyday tense.”
🧠 Tip: If it’s something you do regularly, it’s usually Present Simple!
🕹️ 2. Present Continuous
✅ I am playing football right now.
We use the Present Continuous for actions happening at the moment of speaking.
💡 Tip: If it’s happening “right now,” use am/is/are + verb-ing.
🏆 3. Present Perfect
✅ I have played football many times.
We use the Present Perfect to talk about past experiences or actions that happened at an unspecified time before now.
🎯 Tip: If you don’t say when it happened, it’s probably Present Perfect.
⏳ 4. Present Perfect Continuous
✅ I have been playing football for two hours.
We use the Present Perfect Continuous to show an action that started in the past and is still continuing now.
⚡ Tip: If the action has been going on for some time, use have/has been + verb-ing.
