Hello everyone, and welcome to On Your Mark’s English! 👋

Today is Saturday Story Time, and we’re listening to a short story to hear real English in action.

💬 Read the Story

Today, I went to the supermarket.

Me:  “Oh my gosh! Sarah?” Friend:  “Mark! Wow, I haven’t seen you for years!” Me:  “I can’t believe I ran into you here!” Friend:  “I know! We need to catch up. Do you have time for a coffee?” Me:  “Yes! Let’s go.”

🧠 Real English Expressions in the Story

1️⃣ Run into

“I ran into you.” This doesn’t mean you hit someone — it means you met them by accident or surprise. It’s a very common and natural expression.

2️⃣ Catch up

“We need to catch up.”This means talking to someone you haven’t seen for a long time to learn their latest news and share yours.

These two expressions appear all the time in real English conversations.

💡 Quick Summary

  • Run into = meet by surprise 😲

  • Catch up = talk about news after not seeing someone for a long time 🗣️
