Saturday Story Time: Finding lost items with Prepositions of Place

🎥 Watch the video version of this story above!

We have all had those mornings when we are late for work, and we cannot find our keys or our phone.

In these moments, we use "Prepositions of Place" to describe our search.

Today’s story helps you master the four most common ones used in an office or at home.

The Story Recap

I lost my keys this morning. I looked under my desk, but they weren't there.

I checked between the books on the shelf.

Then I looked next to my computer.

Finally, I found them! They were hiding behind the printer.

Vocabulary Breakdown 💡

  • Under: Think of this as "directly below." If you drop your pen, it is probably under your chair.

  • Between: You need two objects for this. If you sit between two friends, you are in the middle.

  • Next to: This is for objects that are very close to each other, side by side.

  • Behind: This is the opposite of "in front of." If you can't see something, it might be behind a larger object.

Natural English Tips

In casual conversation, we often use "beside" instead of "next to."

They mean exactly the same thing!

"My phone is beside me" and "My phone is next to me" are both perfect.

Your Turn

Let's practice! Look around you right now. Pick one object and tell me where it is.

  • "My coffee is next to my mouse."

  • "My bag is under the table." Where is your phone right now?

Tell me in the comments down below! :)
