Hello everyone, and welcome to On Your Mark’s English! 👋

Today is Grammar Made Easy Tuesday, and we’re learning the difference between the Past Simple and the Present Perfect.

These two tenses are often confusing for English learners, but don’t worry, by the end of this lesson, you’ll understand exactly when to use each one.

🕒 Let’s look at two sentences:

I lost my keys.I have lost my keys.

They look similar, right? But they mean slightly different things.

🧩 1. Past Simple

I lost my keys yesterday.

We use the Past Simple for an action at a specific, finished time in the past.

The time is over. It’s finished.

🧠 Think: When did it happen? If you can answer with a clear time (yesterday, last week, in 2019), you probably need the Past Simple.

2. Present Perfect

I have lost my keys.

We use the Present Perfect for a past action that has a result in the present.

In this example, the result is clear: I don’t have my keys now!

🧠 Think: Is there a result or connection to now? If yes, use the Present Perfect.
