Welcome back! Have you ever started a sentence, realised you made a mistake, and didn't know how to stop?

Or maybe you asked a friend for help and then realised you could do it yourself?

Today, we are learning the ultimate "reset button" for English conversations: "Never mind."

Why we use it 💡

"Never mind" is a very useful phrase because it tells the other person, "Don't spend any more energy thinking about this."

It is helpful, polite, and very common in daily life.

Common Situations:

  • The "I found it" moment: You’re looking for your keys.

Your friend starts helping you look under the sofa.

You find them in your jacket. You say: "I got them! Never mind, thanks anyway!"

  • The "It’s not important" moment: You say something in a noisy room.

Your friend says, "What?" You realise your comment wasn't very interesting.

You say: "Oh, it's okay. Never mind."

  • The "Change of Plans" moment: You ask if someone wants coffee.

They look busy. You say: "You look busy, so never mind. I'll get one later!"

Why "Never mind?"

It literally means "let it never enter your mind."

It’s a way of saying "don't think about it."
