In a professional environment, the words you choose can change how people perceive you. While the word "need" is perfectly correct, it can often sound a bit casual or even demanding.
If you want to sound more sophisticated and formal, it is time to add "require" to your vocabulary.
The 3-Step Method to Mastery
To truly learn a new word, don't just memorise the translation.
Follow these three steps:
1. See it in Context 👁️
Look at how the word lives in a real sentence:
"Our clients require a detailed report by the end of the week."
By seeing it here, you can feel that it is used for expectations, rules, or professional needs.
2. Learn the Definition 🧠
Require (verb) means to need something because it is necessary or because of a rule.
Casual: "I need a signature."
Professional: "We require a signature to complete the contract."
3. Make it Your Own ✍️
The final step is to use it. Try to think of something you need at work today.
"I require access to the server."
"Does the project require additional funding?"
Your Turn
Let's put the method into practice!
Try writing your own sentence with the word furious in the comments down below.
(Wait... did you catch that? I'm checking to see if you remember our last lesson!
If not, try writing a sentence with require instead!)
