If you look in an English textbook, the answer to "Thank you" is almost always "You're welcome."
While that is 100% correct, if you walk into a café in London, Sydney, or Dublin, you will hear something else much more often: "No worries."
What does it actually mean? 💡
"No worries" literally means "do not worry about it."
It is a way of telling the other person that what you did for them was easy, or that their mistake was not a big deal.
Two ways to use "No worries":
1. As a "Thank You" response
This is the most common use. It makes the interaction feel light and friendly.
Person A: "Thanks for holding the door!"
Person B: "No worries!"
2. As an "Apology" response
If someone makes a small mistake, "No worries" is a perfect way to be kind.
Person A: "I'm sorry, I forgot to call you."
Person B: "No worries, we can talk now."
Is it formal? ⚠️
"No worries" is informal. It is perfect for friends, colleagues, and shops.
However, in a very formal business meeting with a big boss, you might still want to use "You are very welcome."
