One of the best ways to make new friends and start interesting conversations is to ask people about their lives.

In English, we have a specific "skeleton" or pattern for this: Have you ever...?

The Structure 🏗️

To build this sentence, you need three main parts:

  1. The Starter: "Have you ever..."

  2. The Action: Use the Past Participle (the 3rd form of the verb, like seen, been, eaten, or visited).

  3. The Detail: The place or thing you are talking about.

Why use this pattern?

When we say "Have you ever," we don't care when the action happened.

We only care if you have the experience.

  • Example: "

  • Have you ever seen a whale?" 🐋 (It doesn't matter if it was yesterday or ten years ago!)

Common Mistake Alert! 🛑

Be careful not to use the simple past verb.

  • ❌ "Have you ever went to Paris?"

  • ✅ "Have you ever been to Paris?"

Your Turn

Let's put this into practice!

Have you ever travelled to another country?

If yes, where did you go?
