Hello everyone, and welcome to On Your Mark’s English.
Today is Friday, and this is English in Use! 🗣️
We’re learning the important difference between Do you like…? and Would you like…?
They look similar, but they are very different.
☕️ Do you like…? (General Preference)
We use Do you like…? to ask about general facts or things someone enjoys in general.
Examples:
“Do you like coffee?”
“Do you like travelling?”
These questions are about your usual likes or preferences.
🎁 Would you like…? (Offer / Invitation)
We use Would you like…? to offer something right now or to invite someone to do something.
Examples:
“Would you like a coffee?” (I am offering one now.)
“Would you like to join us for dinner?”
It is polite and very common in English.
🧠 Remember
Do you like…? = General question. (Do you enjoy it?)
Would you like…? = Offer or invitation. (Do you want it now?)
