Friday Boost: Mastering the Art of Small Talk
🎥 Watch the 60-second weather vocabulary video above!
Welcome back to On Your Mark's English!
Today, we are talking about the most popular topic for conversation in the English-speaking world: the weather.
Whether you are in Ireland, where it is often rainy, or in China, where it can get very sunny, these 10 words will help you start a conversation with anyone.
Knowing the Numbers
When we talk about how hot or cold it is, we use the word temperature.
We measure this in degrees. If the temperature is 35 degrees, it is very hot!
If it is only 5 degrees, you definitely need a jacket because of the wind.
Planning Your Day
Before you go to work or go for a run, it is a good idea to check the weather forecast.
This tells you if it will be sunny, cloudy, or stormy.
If the forecast says it will be a rainy day, don't forget to take your umbrella!
The Changing Year
Everyone has a favourite season.
Some people love the flowers in spring, while others prefer the heat of summer.
No matter which one you like, being able to describe the world around you is a key part of reaching A2 fluency.
Practice Exercise:
Look out your window right now.
Can you describe the weather using three words from today's list?
"Today is cloudy, and there is a strong wind." Try it every morning!
